I love the look of cognac brown and black together. Maybe because I grew up with that "black and brown make a frown" rule, and that one seems to have gone out the window. I'm glad, too, because that one was about as ridiculous as "no white after Labor Day." (However, I still don't think chocolate brown and black go together. Probably because they're a lot closer in color.)

This is what I wore yesterday when J and I went to see Catching Fire. I thought it was good, but I usually spend the first time watching a movie from a book comparing it to the book. So I'd like to see it again and just enjoy it. I'm usually pretty lenient with changes they make for the movie if I can justify that it makes sense in movie format and would be too hard to do exactly as it was in the book, as long as it doesn't change the essence or important parts of the story. There's only been one thing so far with the first two movies that makes me mad that they changed it. I don't want to give anything away here for people who haven't read the books, but let's just say it has to do with the origin of the Mockingjay pin. Otherwise, I think the movies have been pretty spot-on.

Anyway, I'll be back on Friday with something special, and until then, Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. I totally agree about black and cognac. I just don't remember cognac shoes/accessories really being around when I was younger. And on the topic of the Hunger Games - I liked Catching Fire much better than the first movie. I agree with you about the mockingjay pin, but I suspect they didn't want to have to introduce those other characters in the movie (in the interest of time maybe?). I think most of the changes they made were okay, since I understood it was a time and/or format issue. I'm pretty nervous about Mockingjay. There's some crazy stuff in that book - I'm not sure how well it will translate to film.

  2. I wear black and cognac (and mix gray in too) all the time so I'm obviously on your side. :) We are probably going on Saturday to see Catching Fire and I'm really looking forward to it. I didn't really understand why they changed that part in the first movie either. Hope you have a happy Thanksgiving! :)

  3. Haha thanks. :) It's such a huge part of the story, in my opinion, that they could have worked it in somehow instead of just a throw-away option instead. Gah. Hope you had a happy Thanksgiving, too! :)

  4. You're right, I don't either. Cognac brown may be a newer thing. All I remember is the darker chocolate brown, which I agree still doesn't really go with black.

I also liked the second movie better. I agree that they would have had to introduce quite a few more characters in order to tell the mockingjay pin story like it was in the book, but I still think there could've been a way to transition it to movie form without changing it entirely. Oh well. Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how they handle Mockingjay, that book is NUTS.
